I have just had an accident. What things can I do to protect myself?

1. Call the police and have them investigate the accident. Do not rely on the responsible driver to be truthful after he leaves the scene of the accident.
2. Make sure you get the names, addresses and phone numbers of any witnesses present at the scene.
3. There is no excuse for not taking photos of the damage to your car, the accident scene, or of your injuries
4. If you are injured, go to the emergency room
5. Follow the recommendations of the emergency room physicians. If the emergency room physicians have recommended follow-up care, make sure you follow up.
6. Do not delay your care.
7. Keep track of your expenses related to the accident.
8. If you are unable to return to work, make sure your employer knows why you have not returned.
9. Maintain a folder with all your expenses, including prescriptions, mileage, bills, lost wages,, medical records.
10. Hire an experienced personal injury lawyer to guide you.
