I was told that I could use my own insurance or the other person’s insurance to pay for the damage to my car. Which insurance should I use?
If the other insurance is balking about accepting liability for your accident, you might be able to use your own collision coverage which would allow you to get your car fixed, but you will have to pay your deductible. Your deductible should be listed on the declaration page of the your policy. This is the page of your policy which lists your various coverages and the cost. Your deductible was set when you bought your policy. If you use your own policy, then at some point your insurance company will speak with the other insurance company with regard to assessing fault for the accident. Basically your insurance company calls up the other and says “Hey, why should we have to pay this if its your fault?”. The insurance companies will work out their differences, and if they decide that the other driver’s insurance is responsible, then you will receive a check for the reimbursement of your deductible.
